How Sun’s JavaOne Conference Tackled Green

For Sun Microsystem’s event marketing team, the 2007 JavaOne Conference was also an opportunity to incorporate Sun’s corporate initiatives for a greener way of doing business, a belief that weaves its way into both its products and in the way the organization thinks and acts. Doing this meant a review of the way the JavaOne conference was planned, created, and executed – as “green” was considered with every decision. The centerpiece to this plan was an industry-leading strategic blueprint of what a green event can and should accomplish given the inherently energy-intensive activities of moving people and building things.
